LIKES
- Tea; just like the expression 'vodka is Russian water', Arthur feels that it would be an absolute crime if a self-respecting Briton like himself did not enjoy a cuppa or two. On bad days, good days, tuesdays, mondays, and any other day ending in 'y', he will always be more than happy to have a cup or two. Especially when it's a splash of milk, bit of sugar, and a dash or two of honey and lemon.
- Literature; especially that of English origin, with Jane Austen, Shakespeare, George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, the Bronte Sisters, Lewis Carroll, C.S. Lewis, Charles Dickens, and HG Wells - among others - being in his list of favourites. If you are looking for Arthur, it is more than likely that he is buried underneath a five-hundred plus page novel somewhere. The Chronicles of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland are his immature favourites, however.
- Television Broadcasting; One of the reasons why he took his particular major was because Arthur was absolutely in love with the idea of taking an idea and bringing it to life - on either the silver screen or the regular television. With Britain being the birthplace of television as we know it, his interest in the topic was deep routed. From British soaps, or comedy panel shows to all-out costume dramas, Arthur is highly interested in the workings behind the scenes far more than the tension on-screen.
- Drama; being a lover of performing and theatrical arts, drama has captivated Arthur from a young age. That is, only when Arthur is not included. One of the reasons why Arthur loves to write is because he feels himself - though in his pride, he would never admit - adequate enough to suit the roles in which he loved the most and dislikes maintaining a large stage presence. Seeing plays, musicals, so on and so forth, sparks a light in the partial-thespian's heart.
- Myths/Legends; ever since Arthur swore he saw a fairy at the bottom of his garden when he was four, the Briton had been obsessed with the idea of the pseudo-supernatural existing. While he is less into ghost-culture, stories about dragon slaying and wizards and kelpies and changelings and so on get him into giddy excitement.
- Music; from rock to pop to metal to indie, Arthur is practically in love with all genres. With a wide knowledge for music, he would have chosen to go into a music-related career had writing not whisked his soul away. He has an electric guitar, which he is absolutely in love with, affectionately nicknamed ‘Maid Marian’ after the Robin Hood tales.
DISLIKES
- Fatty foods; It is a common misconception that Arthur does not like McDonalds, though that is not true. The only thing that irks him about the restaurant chain is the sheer volume of people pouring in to stuff their faces full of greasy burgers and fatty foods without adjusting for the extra calorie intake. Generally, the high consumption rate makes him feel sick on the best of days.
- Politeness and Proper English; people who are rude with neither a cause nor a meaning are absolutely flawed, according to Arthur. Speech without proper English is something that also truly irks him for the same reason ('It's not 'I ain't doin' it' - it is 'I am not doing it', why do you have to be such an illiterate dolt?!'). Spelling, once again, has to be completely correct or he'll be likely to throw a hissy fit.
- Hangovers; he's old enough to drink legally, had been since age eighteen back at home, but he still does not deal well with the after-effects. Headaches, sickly feelings and disastrous amnesia of just the night before are not amongst his favourite vices.
- Attention Hogs; in his opinion, everyone should be given a chance to shine and an equal opportunity. If some do better than others then great, well done them, nicely deserved. Yet, if some only get what they want by treading on someone they consider to be 'lesser' to them to get it, he is far less than forgiving.
- Being interrupted when speaking/Being interrupted when reading a book/Being interrupted when... when doing basically anything, actually; because it is just plain rude.
STRENGTHS/WEAKNESS
STRENGTHS
Honestly, at least to Arthur's opinion, the Briton's strengths are far and few. Generally he is a critically flawed person, although his sheer stubbornness and strength of mind could be seen as either strength or weakness depending on what lunacy they have him do. He is good at sticking to an idea, getting the required work done and seeing it through to the end, and also defending its value against more attractive propositions. When it comes to work, he plans ahead and is highly calculating when it comes to decisions and deciphering the outcomes of several different options/routes to go down. When it comes to his normal life, he is unwillingly spontaneous and much more personally guarded. While not a natural leader, he is a strong character that understands himself perhaps too well.
WEAKNESS
At times Arthur could be accused as being predictable; he would always shriek if you touched him out of nowhere from behind. He would always delight fellow students with a wholehearted glare if his precious 'quiet time' was cut short. He would always moan at you if you do not clean up your mess when it encroaches on wherever he likes to 'grace' his presence, or if you so much as breathe in the wrong way. Thus makes him far too easy to tease or piss-off on purpose, and unfortunately for a certain Brit, his miniature tantrums/explosions are worth it just to see the way his eyebrows knit together in frustrated annoyance. He does struggle with his aggression more times than not.
PERSONALITY[/color]
The first thing a person might notice about Arthur is that he is British - and very proudly so, thank you very much. His prudish conduct - the way he sticks out his pinky when drinking a cup of tea, or crosses his legs despite not being a woman - and the perhaps constant need to moan about pretty much everything, especially the weather and how 'bloody typical' it is, revealed that all too clearly.
Although he is a highly emotional person, he finds it exceedingly hard to communicate what he is feeling to others; mainly because, hidden away, Arthur does harbour an inferiority complex underneath his prideful exterior. Generally he keeps himself to himself; personality, background, and otherwise - being the type to not make friends easily or get on with the best of people. Despite this, his lack of confidence does not extend to his words when fighting for a subject that he truly believes in.
Critically self-righteous over the top of his rather troubled interior, he is notoriously hard to get along with - because he is quick to act distant to others, or to find critically annoying things about even the loveliest of people - and is chaotically quick to defend himself against other people, even if he is proved wrong. As an ex-delinquent, a rowdy character during his teenage years, he is also very quick to come up with intricate and valid excuses for pretty much anything - although now he's settling down to an adult life, his naughtier days are diminishing.
Arthur is mildly OCD, or so it appears, but only usually when it comes to other people and their things. He will forever be trying to restrain himself from touching and organising someone else's stuff if it bothers him, since if anything that agitates him in his surroundings pop up, he feels compelled to have it sorted so he could have peace of mind. In complete contrast, his bedroom and his own things would be completely untidy - 'My stuff, as long as it’s in my space, I can do what I like with it' - and he would often lose things all about the place. He is the type that would badger someone forever to do their work, if he was worried about their progression. Despite himself, Arthur easily gets emotionally attached to people against his better will.
